Debriefing:
Ultimate Risk,
Organizer’s debrief: Starting the day Ultimate risk promises to be one of the biggest games at the field ever with over 175 preregistration’s we’ll be looking at over 200 players by the end of the day. Setup Enough of that, time to get out with Dean & Sean to tape the boundaries for the southern swamps, thankfully its dry right now. Wrap that do another brief meet & greet and head back out with Dean to make the flags & mark the fields. Little saw from Lee Valley makes quick work of some saplings and we get the flags tied up pretty quickly. Back to meet & greet and I finally meet Sam & Canadian Justice (the Canadian arm of Blue’s Crew). We do a quick run through the day and share a few jokes. Ultimate is their “sentimental” home field and they will be leading the Urbanite team for the day. It’s good to have them on board. Time to chrono my main marker before the line up gets too big. Good thing too, my stabilizer seems a bit cranky and my FPS is all over the place even with HPA. Get that tuned in so I don’t shoot “lobbers” all day. At about 9:30 when everyone is looking for flagging tape to mark teams it sinks in that I have to General the Junglists as well. After reeling off tape as quickly as I can betweeen various questions coming in, I sit down with my team mates from Kamakazi Commandos we set a strategy to get up and cover the northern forest ASAP while the rest of the team fills out our territories between there and our home base in the hog patch. Back to handing out flagging tape and getting ready to do orientation over the loud speaker. After a few glitches with the team sign up (mixed up paint/team colours, players switching sides) we’re finally ready to go by a little after 10am. The game starts For the rest of the afternoon the game is very dynamic with the control of territories changing almost every 1/2 hour. Canadian Justice crew does a wide northeastern flank with some very heavy ramping and we get swept back into dark forest agian. I get tagged and have to walk back out for re-insertion. Encounter some Urbanites attacking from the hog patch. After informing them they’re out of bounds they’re understandably ticked off being directed there by a ref. Reminder to self, have a meeting at least 1 week in advance with all ref’s & support staff to cover all the rules & logistics. At some point I take a large squad and we air drop through the bush into the northern forest, we pass a lot of Urbanites heavy in the bush outside of castle. Happily we land in Junglist controlled territory. We leave a few more support and move up to to dark forest to clear out some resistance. After some really constrained fire fights in the heavy bush I move up to support a friendly behind a bunker. We exchange a couple rounds of fire and I take one in the mask. As I get up and walk out the guy realizes he’s just TK’d his General, good thing the paint got mixed up or we’d have a heavy penalty there. Gong Show The last 1/2 hour of play remained heavy in the central region. “Word on the street” was the Junglists were dominating, if that was the case our players should have taken more of the flags. Wrap up Teams were fairly even in recorded penalties; 6 for the Junglists, 7 for the Urbanites. Junglists stopped the most terrorists at 12, with only 7 for the Urbanites. Urbanites cleaned up with the medics, returning 3 medic cards & a total of 32 healings, Junglists with only 2 cards returned & 18 healings. All in all feedback for the event has been very positive and we have a “tactical list” of improvements and tune ups for next year |
